At Kendall-Whittier, Fine Arts is integral to our school culture. Every student has access to joyful Visual Art and General Music classes approximately once a week.
In Visual Art, students create projects of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art using many methods and materials. This includes painting, drawing, sculpture and many other contemporary methods of artistic expression. At Kendall Whittier, students are pushed to grow as artists and creative problem solvers.
In General Music, every child makes music by singing, playing barred instruments / xylophones, drums, and soprano recorders at appropriate ages. Music vocabulary and concepts are learned in fun ways, while folk dancing from other cultures and even today’s pop culture is included. There are music programs planned throughout the year, so that each child has an opportunity to shine!
After school programs we offer:
- Tiger Choir – an auditioned group of singers, 4th grade and older.
- Beginning World Music Drummers - an auditioned group of students learning to play drums in the African style, while branching out into other cultures as well.
- Advanced World Music Drummers – an auditioned group that has transitioned from the Beginning class, and has many opportunities to perform in the community.
