At Kendall-Whittier, Fine Arts is integral to our school culture. Every student has access to joyful Visual Art and General Music classes approximately once a week.
In Visual Art, students create projects of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art using many methods and materials. This includes painting, drawing, sculpture and many other contemporary methods of artistic expression. At Kendall Whittier, students are pushed to grow as artists and creative problem solvers.
In General Music, every child makes music by singing, playing barred instruments / xylophones, drums, and soprano recorders at appropriate ages. Music vocabulary and concepts are learned in fun ways, while folk dancing from other cultures and even today’s pop culture is included. There are music programs planned throughout the year, so that each child has an opportunity to shine!
After school programs we offer:
KWHP (Kendall-Whittier Harmony Project)
At Kendall-Whittier, we have a long-established partnership with Harmony Project in association with El Sistema and Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. This year, we will be able to provide a 5 day-a-week program offering daily music lessons in violin, viola, cello, ukulele, theatrical vocals and stage make up from members of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, an incredible opportunity. In addition, Kendall-Whittier and TPS staff will provide homework-help tutoring support for all students enrolled in the program.
